The Company
Known as the "City of Progress, the City of Sharonville (USA) has 1,200 businesses, a residential population of 14,000 and a work population of 37,000. The Building and Planning Department (BPD) of its City Council is responsible for reviewing plans, issuing permits and performing field inspections within the town.
Challenge
Back in 1976 DataEase DOS was employed by the BPD to keep track of their permit applications. Recently, like many organizations who have upgraded their systems to Windows 2000 server, they started experiencing performance and compatibility problems with their DOS application. It was time to move to Windows.
Solution
Katrina Biscay, IT Manager for the City of Sharonville City Council, called in Sapphire to convert their legacy DOS application to the latest DataEase version. The application was analysed, a detailed specification produced and full implementation was performed very quickly. The fully converted system was installed in just one day.
The outcome
The BPD users are very pleased with the new solution. To Katrina the biggest benefits were the ability to keep all their data intact whilst continuing to provide users with familiarity. The same functions and shortcuts were retained and this has meant a very short learning curve for existing users of the system.
